![]() ![]() Growing up my dad grew a garden filled with habanero peppers (SO SPICY!). Hatch chilis are still a new-ish-to-me food. Instead of the typical jalapeño margarita, this mocktail recipe is made with freshly muddled hatch chilis from H-E-B. I loved it and spicy margaritas became my go-to drink. I am not a spicy food person, so the first time I tried a spicy margarita I was sure I’d be like, “eww. To make pregnancy beverages a wee-bit less boring, here we are with a spicy booze-less margarita! A few weeks ago I shared that frozen margarita mocktail, but this week I was feeling a spicy, on-the-rocks mocktail was in order. Someone recently asked me what my least favorite part of pregnancy is and I said, “I can’t drink margaritas!!!!!!!” I will definately make my improved version again. This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of H-E-B. Next time I will use 1 habenero per cup of tequila! We cut it in half and added the same proportion of tequila and grapefruit and it was much better and a great combo of flavors. We loved the whole taste of it, but it was just too hot. My husband forgot to marinate them ahead of time, so they only soaked for 1 hour.Īs all of us spice lovers sipped our first taste in unison and we all immediately ran around the house like we were "el fuego." I used 8 for this recipe instead of 12 only because that's all I had. but then it's just wonderful! (Especially when it's 110 outside!) As someone else suggested, I went for a 1:1 on the tequila and juice.Īlthough for some, the first few sips will be a tad warm. I let the ta-kill-ya sit for about 2.5 hours and used 1 cup and 1/2 a habanero since this was an experiment and I LOVE ESPOLON(best tequila ever- ask your local liquor store to order for you, and no I don't work for them) and could never throw it out. I believe "DANGEROUSLY REFRESHING" would be more appropriate. Reading the reviews on this and saw that they misread the recipe regarding the habeneros, the recipe calls for one-two habernos, not 12! not sure how they could have mistook that, no wonder it was a little hot for them! I used 2 habanero for only 2.5 hours and it is HOT. Added some Gran Marnier and squeeze of lime and that made it better but not great. Maybe my grapefruit juice was too bitter, but it needed something sweeter. Made this exactly as stated in recipe, and just don't like it. We have been drinkin' these daily since July 2011! we love spicy food, so we use 2 habeneros & don't remove them for 2 weeks!!! Next time I may add an extra habanero offer let it steep a bit longer, just to test it with a little more kick.Īfter following the recipe, we decided it wasn't quite sweet enough and a little too spicy so we added more grapefruit juice and some strawberries, and it made it a lot better! After adding a slice of lime or was perfect, a little spicy and incredibly refreshing. We made this recipe exactly as described and it was delicious, but I thought it needed a little something else. Plus the syrup keeps well and can be used in other concoctions.įor the perfect Margarita just add half a cup of triple sec to this recipe. I love Palomas and will try Habanero simple syrup next time to add both the needed kick and a touch of sweetness. My spicy Margaritas involve muddling cilantro, lime wedge and jalapeños, adding tequila and homemade mix and pouring into a smokey-salt rimmed glass. This is more of a spicy Paloma, than Margarita. ![]()
